Now You See It: Seeing the Story in the DataThis session demonstrated creative ways data are being displayed to tell the story of IDEA and other data. Participants heard from states that are displaying data in ways that tell data stories and convey meaning to stakeholders and the public. Participants also saw ways to access various online federal education data. This session offered participants online resources and websites about effective data displays.

The Power of Data: Leveraging the Role of Data Managers to improve ResultsThis session examined the strategic role data play in state agency decision making by exploring how data managers can more effectively use their role to promote public reporting, data awareness, data utilization, and systems change. Presenters paid particular attention to data governance, cross-department information sharing, timely data access, distribution, usability, and analysis, along with examples of best practice from practitioners in the field to ultimately improve student results.

Collaborative Partnerships Between State Special Education Data Managers and EDFacts Coordinators: Two Models-Working Together to Make a DifferenceThe presentation outlined the collaborative partnerships between the Part B data manager and EDFacts coordinator in two states--West Virginia and Kansas. The discussion included a range of topics from collaborating on data collection and verification at the LEA level to SEA EDFacts submissions. The presentation included time for other Part B data managers to share strategies for successful submission of their 618 data through EDFacts.

Considerations for Making Changes to SIMR Baselines and TargetsThe presentation examines the reasons why states would change baselines or targets for their SSIPs. Topics addressed include changes in assessments, data collection methods, and data quality. Participants discussed and provided input into an IDC white paper on the topic. Currently, the white paper is in draft form and undergoing revisions based on input from the field. The published paper will be posted to the IDC Resource Library and affiliated as a related resource to the handout already posted for this session.
